How would you describe your knee pain problems?

Chronic knee pain can really infringe upon your lifestyle. Simple daily activities become a challenge as you attempt to avoid any type of movement that may aggravate the pain. At this point, chronic knee pain relief becomes a priority, and you just want to get back to living life the way you used to. The good news is, an affordable and low profile brace can help give you the chronic knee pain relief you seek. – No Joke.

The knee joint is one of the largest joints in the human body, and is used in just about ever activity we perform in our lower body. As time goes by, natural wear and tear can cause serious knee pain. Chronic knee discomfort can stem from any number of conditions. Unlike traumatic injuries to the joint (which can cause sharp but temporary knee pain), chronic conditions (such as arthritis, and bursitis) can cause pain that is steady and nearly constant.

Consequently, conventional treatments used for traumatic pain (such as ice therapy and rest) may not give you chronic pain relief in the long run. They can be helpful, of course, but many times they just do not “cut it”. It is always wise to have your chronic knee pain evaluated by a physician to help determine the cause. However, whatever the cause, in many cases, a well designed support may offer some degree of chronic knee pain relief. These braces do not have to be big, ugly, or heavy to be effective. Several different, yet effective knee brace styles exist these days…

Most chronic pain is related in some way to general wear and tear and overuse of the structures within the knee joint. For instance, when the cartilage disc under the knee cap breaks down and wears thin, the friction between the knee cap and the bone underneath can cause chronic knee pain. A brace, when properly used, can help relieve the stress on the joint, thus reducing the wear and tear and friction within the joint. Further, an effective support can help keep your leg in proper alignment, helping to provide chronic knee pain relief from conditions such as Patellofemoral Syndrome (where the patella does not sit properly within the femoral groove).

A knee brace can also help support the muscles, tendons and ligaments surrounding the joint, helping to reduce inflammation caused by conditions such as bursitis, or meniscal tears. Reduced inflammation will help provide relief from chronic knee pain.

Braces come in several different styles offering varying degrees of support, depending upon your particular needs. Do not be left behind, just because your knee pain wants to keep you still. A support for your knee can be the one thing you did to help provide yourself with improved stability.

If your knees had one thing they could say, they might just shout “thank you”, because you gave them the support they needed.

What is arthritis?

An inflammation of a body joint or its component tissues, accompanied by pain, soreness, and inflexibility in that area, which is basically a result of causes ranging from infection, distress, degenerative changes or metabolic disorders.

In simple words, affected joints are unable to move smoothly past one another.

In medical parlance, arthritis refers to a collection of more than 100 rheumatic diseases and conditions that can cause pain, stiffness and soreness in the joints. If left untreated, arthritis can cause irreversible damage to the joints.

What are the various forms of arthritis?

Arthritis can appear suddenly or gradually, and occurs in various forms, but osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis are the two most common.

There are four basic types of arthritis:

1. Inflammatory arthritis - inflammation of tissues related to joints. Connective tissue diseases, crystal deposition diseases, infectious arthritis, and spondylitis are examples of inflammatory arthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis is the most common variety. Other types are Ankylosing spondylitis, Reiter’s syndrome, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome.

2. Degenerative joint disease (osteoarthritis) - corrosion of the cartilage lining the joints and lessening of new bone formation underneath the cartilage. The disease is quite common in the latter part of life where the continued slow damage causes increasing disability.

3. Nonarticular rheumatism - sometimes called soft-tissue rheumatism, and includes conditions like tendonitis, bursitis, fibrositis. This condition is related to sleep disturbances or even muscular abnormalities.

4. Other diseases may also give rise to arthritis. There exist neurological, blood and endocrine related disorders giving rise to rheumatic diseases.

How to recognize arthritis?

Symptoms differ from person to person depending on his age, the affected area and the type of arthritis. The most common symptoms include:

§ Swelling in one or more joints

§ Stiffness around the joint that usually occurs in the early morning

§ Constant or recurring pain in a joint

§ Tenderness around a joint

§ Difficulty using or moving a joint normally

§ Redness in a joint accompanied by heat there

Other possible symptoms:

§ Occasional fever

§ Weight loss and fatigue

§ Breathing difficulty

§ Rashes and itching

Who all are at risk of arthritis?

Younger people have a relatively lower risk of having arthritis but still comprise a sizeable portion of affected people.

Prevalence is generally higher among women as compared to men, especially osteoarthritis. Arthritis is the leading cause of mobility limitation in women aged 45 years and above. So all you ladies, remember prevention is better than cure.

What are the common causes?

The causes of arthritis usually depend on the type of arthritis. Common causes include:

§ injury (leading to osteoarthritis),

§ irregular metabolism

§ hereditary

§ some infection

§ unknown reasons in case of rheumatoid arthritis

What treatment procedure to follow?

Early diagnosis and treatment helps……

The most common complication of arthritis is functional disability. However, do not get scared! General health upkeep, rest, and gradual treatment can avoid this situation.

There is no complete remedial treatment, only control through a combination of heat fomentation, massage, and supervised exercise. The various treatment options help manage pain and reduce deformity and disability.

A correct diagnosis of the type of arthritis is important before undergoing any drug therapy. Rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis can be treated with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Do not be your own doctor. Remember, all medications can have side effects, so the dosage and duration of treatment should essentially be under trained medical supervision. Surgical treatment includes arthroscopic surgery and joint replacement.

Tips to control and prevent the condition:

§ Weight reduction accompanied by regular physical activity: Keep your weight under control, as it reduces the risk of getting arthritis, especially osteoarthritis.

§ Strengthen the muscles: through regular exercise – especially weight bearing exercise. It helps maintain physical mobility and slows the development of disability.

§ Prevent stress on a particular joint as well as injuries: Repetitive stress or injuries on any joint increases the risk of osteoarthritis.

What kind of diet regime need to be followed to take care of this condition:

Nutrition is an important aspect in the treatment of arthritis.

For a person suffering from arthritis, his diet should be rich in fruits and vegetables (flavonoid rich foods), especially those that are rich sources of anti-oxidants so as to protect against cellular and joint damage.

Try and avoid all processed foods, complex carbohydrates, including sugar and fruit juices. Increase intake of high fibre foods. Limit fat intake to a minimum.

An important aspect in reducing arthritis pain is elimination of any type of food sensitivity. Get a test for food sensitivity because there may be allergies involved.

Food supplements may be introduced. Anti-oxidants help prevent damage to the cartilage of the bone. Vitamin E slows down the breakdown of cartilage as well as stimulates the manufacture of cartilage components. Vitamin C is necessary for the manufacture of collagen, the major support protein of cartilage.

How does physical therapy help?

Physical therapy is very important in reestablishing joint harmony. Various physical therapy treatments include exercise, heat, cold, and diathermy(heat treatment using electricity); and are beneficial in increasing joint mobility and decreasing pain. Avoid physical activities that excessively put strain on the joints.

Some natural treatment options:

No medicine or drug can completely cure arthritis or slow its progression without causing side effects. But, you can help repair your joints as well as slow degeneration with natural treatment therapies.

Natural Solution: Arthcare Oil – An Anti-inflammatory Herbal massage oil.

Arthcare is anti-inflammatory herbal oil, which not only gives a relief from joint pains but also strengthens the bone tissues, the skeletal and the neuromuscular systems, giving comfortable movements of joints and muscles. http://www.ayurvediccure.com/arthcareoil.htm

Massage with the yellow wonder herb – turmeric. No question of any side effects, plus turmeric also acts as an anti-oxidant to help protect joints.

Ginger, an ayurveda herb, if consumed in small amounts on a regular basis can reduce symptoms and occurrence of rheumatoid arthritis.

Aromatherapy technique involves the use of extracted oil from flowers, plants and trees in combination with massage and steam inhalation – helps relaxation, pain relief.

Yoga involves a combination of breathing exercises and relaxation to help in blood circulation and movement of joints.

Osteopathy includes the manipulation of the body to restore normal action and decrease pain. It is not recommended for those suffering from osteoporosis.

Reflexology involves rubbing the feet and the palm of the hand to help progress the state of rest of the body, and also generate a warm sensation. This is an ideal method for stress management and overall health continuance; factors that cause arthritis.

So, come on get moving, and do not allow this ageless epidemic disease become a debilitating factor in your daily life.

Rheumatoid arthritis is an inflammatory disease. It first appears as an inflammation in the membrane that lubricates your joints. As this inflammation progresses, the membrane thickens and becomes painful and swollen. Over time, this inflammation spreads to other parts of the affected joint. This causes more stiffness and pain. This inflammation can spread throughout the body. And for this reason, rheumatoid arthritis a very serious condition.

Inflammation is your body’s normal response to infections and injuries. Normally, the inflammation goes away after the infection is wiped out. However, with rheumatoid arthritis, this persists and can invade your entire body. While the disease can strike at any age it usually occurs between the ages 20 and 50. And it afflicts about three times as many women as men.

Sometimes, people with rheumatoid arthritis can develop small lumps under the skin near the elbows, ears, nose, knees, toes, or on the back of the scalp. These lumps are called rheumatoid nodules. These lumps can range from pea sized to the size of a ping pong ball.

While medical experts have not identified a single cause for rheumatoid arthritis, possibilities include heredity, viral or bacterial infection, and emotional stress. Some of the signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis is; pain, swelling, redness, and warmth in affected joints. It usually affects the joints in your hands and feet. However, your elbows, knees, and ankles can be also affected.

During a flare-up, a combination of rest, heat, and medication may be prescribed by your doctor. Anti-inflammatory drugs like aspirin are usually the first line of treatment and may ease some of your symptoms. There are several other medications used to treat rheumatoid arthritis.

Another good pain relieving product is Flexcin. It eases the pain of rheumatoid arthritis, bursitis, gout, and fibromyalgia. Using Flexcin, joint pain can become a distant memory. Flexcin is the completely safe natural way to fight the pain of rheumatoid arthritis. It has been used successfully by patients worldwide and has been recommended by doctors for over 10 years.

Knee pain can be related to overuse where small stresses are placed a large number of times on knee without allowing adequate recovery, for example running too much too soon, or excessive jumping. Or knee pain can be acute where the injury is caused by an impact or twisting of the knee such as an anterior cruciate ligament injury. An overuse injury can also be considered to be acute if it is painful or inflammed.

Knee pain is a common reason that people visit their doctors’ offices or the emergency room. Often, knee pain is the result of an injury, such as a ruptured ligament or torn cartilage. But some medical conditions can also bring you to your knees, including arthritis, gout and infections.

The knee joint is surrounded by a joint capsule with ligaments strapping the inside and outside of the joint (collateral ligaments) as well as crossing within the joint (circulate ligaments). These ligaments provide stability and strength to the knee joint.

Symptoms of Knee Pain

Loose body: Sometimes injury or degeneration of bone or cartilage can cause a piece of bone or cartilage to break off and float in the joint space. This may not create any problems unless the loose body interferes with knee joint movement — the effect is something like a pencil caught in a door hinge — leading to pain and a locked joint.

Septic arthritis: Sometimes your knee joint can become infected, leading to swelling, pain and redness. Septic arthritis often occurs with a fever.

Bursitis: The most common bursa affected around the joint is just above the kneecap. This is most common in people who kneel for work, such as gardeners or carpetlayers.

Swelling of the knee is common with several different knee problems. When there is swelling immediately after an injury (within an hour), the most common causes are an injury to the anterior cruciate ligament or a fracture of the top of the shin bone. When swelling develops gradually over hours to days, the injury is more likely a tear of the meniscus or a ligament sprain.

Treatment for Knee Pain

Rest: The first treatment for most common conditions that cause knee pain is to rest the joint, and allow the acute inflammation to subside. Often this is the only step needed to relieve knee pain. If the symptoms are severe, crutches may be helpful as well.

Protection: The best way to protect your knee from further damage depends on the type and severity of your injury. For most minor injuries, a compression wrap is usually sufficient. More serious injuries, such as a torn ACL or high-grade collateral ligament sprain usually require crutches and sometimes also a brace to help stabilize the joint with weight bearing.

Exercises considered better for the knees include small (not deep) knee bends and straightening motions – done while in supination with most weight on the outside of the foot.

Most knee conditions respond to a combination of non-invasive treatments such as applying heat or cold, temporarily restraining from activities that aggravate pain, and medications that target pain and inflammation. Exercises to strengthen the muscles that support the knee help reduce stress on the knee joint and prevent re-injury.

Knee joint replacement: The knee is a complex joint, which is made up of the distal end of the femur (the femoral condyles), and the proximal end of the tibia (the tibial plateau). The femoral condyles usually glide smoothly on the tibial plateau, allowing for smooth, painless motion of the lower leg. (Illustrated).

Arthritis is a disease of the joints connecting the bones of the body. This happens when the said cartilage of the joint becomes weak, brittle, or deteriorated; the effect of which is the exposure of the bare bones to conditions leading to arthritis.

Knee arthritis is the most common form of this disease. Generally, it is due to old age, being overweight, or just hereditary. It is common because the knee is a part of the body that is mostly used everyday, when walking, running, or doing outdoor activities; only the degree of pain varies.

Pain can be suffered not only from arthritis; there are many sources of knee pain. It may be from bursitis or the inflammation by reason of frequent and constant pressure like overuse and kneeling. Pain may also come from tendinitis or the pain in the knee while ascending or descending from the stairs or when engaging in sports and outdoor activities. Other causes includes a strain or sprain, torn ligaments due to accidents, dislocation of the knee cap, injuries, infections in the joint, and tumors.

There are several causes of arthritis knee pain and it consists of the Baker’s cyst, rheumatoid, osteoarthritis, connective tissue disorders, gout, and lupus. The Baker’s cyst is characterized as a fluid-filled bulge behind one’s knee that accompanies inflammation. The bad thing about the Baker’s cyst is that when the cyst bursts, it will not just affect the knee but also your calf.

In osteoarthritis, the cartilage of the joint slowly deteriorates revealing the joints to arthritis attacks. In rheumatoid, it is not just gradual deterioration but the cartilage is destroyed because of the inflammation. Simply put, the Baker’s cyst, rheumatoid, connective tissue disorders, gout and lupus have the same serious effect of severe inflammation including the tissues, bones, ligaments, nerves, and muscles around it.

Some common arthritis knee pain includes inflammation of the joints, swelling of the bones near the joints, problems in standing, walking, or running, and intolerable discomfort.

Arthritis pain varies depending on the cause. If the person suffering from arthritis belongs to the 50 years old and up bracket, the knee pain is pretty much tolerable but it is very hard to stand, walk, or run. In this case, the person suffering from this ailment must use a cane or a wheelchair for mobility. With respect to persons under 50 years of age, the cause of arthritis may be overuse, overweight, or genetic.

A knee is considered overused when the person is sports inclined and does not rest for a sufficient number of hours. In this type of arthritis the inflammation in the knee is serious and unbearable, but may still be cure through proper rest. When the person is overweight, the pain is experienced when walking or running. In this case it is having a hard time to carry the weight of one’s body.

Arthralgia is the medical term for pain in the joints and there can be several different causes. The name arthralgia (literally: “joint pain”, from “arthros” = “joint” and “-algia” denoting “pain”) and may have numerous underlying ailments and triggers as the source. Although some people will say that Arthralgia is very similar to arthritis in cause, they would be mistaken. Arthritis is most commonly caused by an inflammation in the joints caused by degradation in the cartilage. Arthralgia on the other hand, is only pain and may not always have a discernible causation.

In other words, a person with arthritis can have arthralgia, but the condition of arthralgia can exist on it’s own, springing up spontaneously with little known causes.

What are the symptoms of Painful Joints?

Joint Pain caused by arthritis is usually characterized by joint stiffness, swelling, redness, and warmth. Tenderness of the inflamed joint can be present. In other cases, where joint pain is caused by injury, tendonitis, bursitis or lupus, the symptoms can be very similar with slight variations. For example, if the joint pain is caused by a loss of lubrication of the cartilage, the resulting friction can cause bones to make audible cracking and popping sounds. While this can occur with arthritis, it most often occurs with other contributing ailments.

What are the causes of Painful Joints?

The common causes of arthralgia are various forms of arthritis, including septic, rheumatoid and Osteoarthritis. Other causes include accidental injury or fracture, infectious diseases like rheumatic fever, flu, hepatitis, mumps, rubella or chicken pox, bursitis and autoimmune disorders such as lupus. When joint pain is caused by Injury to the ligaments, cartilage, and bones within the joint, this can bring on intense, debilitating pain.

Certain diagnostic tests can be done to figure out what the source of your joint pain is. These diagnostic tests may include an X-ray of the joint or a CSC differential blood analysis. In cases where no discernible reason can be given for joint pain, an individual may simply nurse the afflicted area until the pain goes away. If the pain becomes chronic, you may consider getting another round of tests.

Will Painwave X4000 Help with Painful Joints?

Yes it can! Painwave X4000 is a non-invasive, drug-free method that can provide even chronic joint pain sufferers instant relief. This is because, unlike painkillers or hot or cold compresses, the Painwave X4000 uses the body’s own bioelectromagnetic ecosystem to eliminate the pain response cycle. Painwave X4000 has no side effects, and the unit is simply moved gently over the surface of the skin in a small circular motion. After prolonged and repeated use, the Painwave X4000 may even create greater blood circulation, cell activity and lymphatic movements. These improvements can be of great benefit to someone who suffers from intense joint pain. Best of all, this stimulation will greatly reduce or eliminate pain for good.

Note: The information provided in this article is not intended to provide the means for self-diagnosis. If you are suffering from joint pain, please contact your primary care physician to obtain a full physical examination.
