Tendonitis, arthritis or carpal tunnel syndrome?

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

I went to the General doctor because a further business i had and i also told him about the pain on my hands I’ve felt. I did an X-ray and he said didn’t show anything, but my blood test (which was for checking my joints) was positive. Then he referred me to a rheumatoid doctor (or something like that). he didn’t know what could be once the x ray was ok. So, it’s not tendonitis, right? could it be arthiritis or carpal tunnel?
I don’t have insurance and the appointment with the other doctor will be just in 3 months, which I know it’s too far and it can leave with a recurring problem.
What could I do to avoid getting worse? I am a house cleaner and i know it’s because of this. But i can’t leave my job. which kind of those “wrist gloves” i could use? i was by one the compress the wrist, but i just read it shouldn’t be tight if it’s carpal syndrome.
is here an anti inflammatory over the counter i could use? i used bengay and in the beginning worked out, but now, it makes the pain even worse.
Thanks for the initially answer, but i don’t want to take pain killers, i want to fix it, or at least get rid of the inflammation.
the x ray was of the wrist and fingers

Wrist Pain

Monday, April 26th, 2010

Wrist pain can be a troublesome condition that can greatly interfere with our normal everyday activities. It can make it hard or even nearly impossible to perform unadorned tasks such as alternative up a cup, brushing one’s hair or doing up buttons. Until you have a wrist problem, you probably take this joint it for granted. Just wait until you need help with washing and dressing.

Some causes of wrist pain can include the following things :-
1. Tendonitis. This is a common problem that can cause pain and swelling.  Wrist tendonitis is due to inflammation of the tendon sheath, notably due to repetitive strain and computers are often the culprit. Sometimes gardening and organization activities are the problem. Treatment of wrist pain caused by tendonitis usually does not require surgery

2. Sprain. Wrist sprains are common injuries to the ligaments nearly the wrist joint. Ligaments become very tender and movement is painful. Sports, gardening, lifting children, ironing and food preparation can all say. Sprains can cause real problems by limiting the use of our hands and requiring long periods of rest.

3. Carpal tunnel syndrome. This is the condition that results from compression and irritation of one the median nerve in the wrist. In carpal tunnel syndrome this nerve is compressed and it seems more common in women , primarily if hormonal levels fluctuate and they carry more fluid in their periphery, as may happen with pregnancy. It may linked to repetitive strain injuries.

4. Arthritis. This is a problem that can cause severe wrist pain and difficulty performing normal activities. Here are many thoughts and possible causes of arthritis, and fortunately here are a digit of treatments for wrist arthritis. Generally imaging, blood tests and a rheumatologist needs to confirm the exact type of arthritis present.

5. Swelling cyst. This is a benign swelling that usually occurs over the back of the hand or wrist. These are benign, fluid-filled capsules. Swelling cysts are not cancerous, will not spread, and while they may grow in size, they will not spread to other parts of your body.

6. Break. This is a common orthopedic injury. Patients who sustain a broken wrist may be treated in a cast, or they may need surgery for the break. The outcome varies with the type of break, displaced or undisplaced and how much rehabilitation it requires.

Treatment of some of these conditions could include ice and heat application, a wrist support, anti-inflammatory medication and cortisone injections.

When do you need to call your doctor about your wrist pain? If you are unsure of the cause of your wrist pain, or if you do not know the point treatment recommendations for your condition, you should seek medical attention. Treatment of these conditions must be directed at the point cause of your problem. Some signs that you should be seen by a doctor include:

* Inability to carry objects or use the arm
* Injury that causes distortion of the joint

* Wrist pain that persists beyond a few days
* Inability to tidy or flex the joint
* Swelling or significant bruising nearly the joint or forearm
* Signs of an infection, including fever, redness, warmth
